Obtaining adequate funding from the State of Alabama for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 is vital to AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs). This year, we are asking for $7.88 million. This is the amount needed to ensure that a waiting list is not created for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and to ensure that individuals with HIV/AIDS are not dis-enrolled from the program. The results of a waiting list and/or dis-enrollment would be catastrophic for the individual as well as the State. From a strictly financial perspective, maintaining ADAP is a cost-saving measure. Men and women with HIV/AIDS who are not receiving appropriate medications will cost the healthcare system substantially more than would be required to maintain ADAP.
