Volunteer Opportunities

West Alabama AIDS Outreach (WAAO) depends heavily on volunteers to help us accomplish our mission of providing direct services to people living with HIV/AIDS and  preventing the spread of the disease through awareness activities and educational programs to the public.

  1. Become a Buddy for one of our clients who needs companionship or help with things like going to the grocery store, post office, etc.
  2. Help publicize upcoming events by putting up posters around town, taking red ribbons to businesses, etc.
  3. Become trained as a Red Cross certified HIV/AIDS instructor and become a speaker for prevention education programs.
  4. Organize a food or other drive for such items as canned fruit, canned hams, body lotions, jars of peanut butter, or other food or hygiene items.
  5. Help keep the food pantry stocked and organized.
  6. Take recyclables to recycling center.
  7. Help answer phones at the office.
  8. Help prepare the newsletter or other bulk mailing.
  9. Stamp brochures when they come in and put up on shelves.
  10. Make red AIDS awareness ribbons.
